The forest cover in Gujarat is declining. Due to this, water from hills flow down with tremendous speed and washes away with it the top fertile layer of soil. Maheshbhai Lakhabhai Damor of Kaliyakua village in Meghraj Taluka has made a unique step like canal and has diverted the flow of water from the forest to his farm. He is of the opinion that because of this stream-like flow his farm gets water and fertile soil that the water brings with it. As a result he gets good crop. Moreover, the extra water from his farm is diverted again to other farms. This step like canal has increased the fertility of the soil and yield from the farm.(See HB 3(1):11,1992, 2(1):18,1991,5 (4):3-6,1994 for water management practices)Source: Loksarvani 5(3):5,2000
